UPTOWN — About two years ago, a shooting left a young man wounded on Lindsey's porch in the 4700 block of North Racine Avenue in Uptown.

And ever since then, she's never looked at her neighborhood or shootings the same.

"I kind of have become accustomed it. I don't even look out my window when I hear" gunshots, said the five-year Uptown resident, who refused to give her last name. "There's so many, I don't really bother with them. If I did, they'd really stress me out."

But the shootings had been few and far between until last weekend, when three people were shot within a few blocks of where she hung out with her dog Thursday afternoon. From Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, two men were wounded in separate shootings on Leland Avenue.

Ald. James Cappleman (46th) said in an email Thursday that police have video surveillance and some leads on the shootings.

"This type of violence is both senseless and unacceptable," Cappleman said in the email. "I've already been in discussion with the Sheridan Park Neighbors Association to schedule a meet and greet with neighbors to explore ways we can strengthen our community to work together to stand up to violence."

Around 9 p.m. Tuesday, a 28-year-old man was shot in his eye while walking near Racine and Leland avenues, according to Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

About four hours later, a 27-year-old man was shot in his forearm when a man got out of a car and opened fire in the 1300 block of West Leland Avenue, Amezaga said.

Police could not provide the victims' conditions, but said they were "stable."

At Thursday's beat 1915 CAPS meeting, Sgt. Eddie Yushimura said the shootings do not appear to be related.

The 28-year-old man did not have an arrest record and was from out of state, while the 27-year-old had multiple arrests and was from the South Side, said Yushimura, of the Town Hall District.

On May 27, Shannon Fickes, 43, was outside her job in the 4700 block of North Racine Avenue when she heard about seven gunshots and saw a gold car "zoom down the street."

Around 2:17 p.m. a man was shot in his leg while walking in the 4600 block of North Racine Avenue, police said.

The incident was scary, "but I grew up on the South Side, so I'm used to it. It is horrible, but it is better" than on the South Side, she said.

"We have a tenant who wants to get out of his lease early to get out of the area," Fickes said, adding this is the first time he's had a tenant want to leave because of the violence.

Betty, a three-year resident of Uptown who refused to give her name, was on her way home when she heard the familiar din of gunshots Friday.

"It's scary," she said from her post outside the Buddhist Temple of Chicago at 1151 W. Leland Ave. "It's sad when you're afraid to go outside. At a certain time, we go in and don't come back out."
