Tom Petty Visits The 'Hood And Other Happenings In Uptown And Andersonville

UPTOWN AND ANDERSONVILLE — Tom Petty and his early band Mudcrutch will visit the Riviera Theatre this weekend, but just in case you're not a Petty fan (whatever) here are some other things happening: 

Comic, Characters and Music at Uptown Underground: Uptown Underground will host The Union on Friday, a one-night-only event featuring some of the best comics and performers coming together to celebrate comedy and an actual marriage happening later in the weekend. Performers include Conor Cawley, Sohrab Forourzesh, Christopher Dunn Condren, Nate Burrows, Reena Calm and Chris Sanders. Tickets to the show are $10. 8 p.m. Friday. 4707 N. Broadway.

March For Peace with the Police: Ald. Harry Osterman (48th), Ald. James Cappleman (46th), faith leaders and police invite the Uptown community for a night of a faith and action at various locations in the neighborhood Friday. More details are available here. 7 to 9 p.m. 1011 W. Wilson Ave. or the intersection of Argyle Street and Sheridan Road.

Events For Teens at the Park District: Various events for teens will be hosted by the Chicago Park District Friday including a teen basketball league at Chase Park from 6:30-9 p.m., a teen open gym at Clarendon Park from 7-10 p.m., teen swim at Gill Park from 7-9 p.m. and "positive loitering" — where community members come together to reclaim crime-ridden spots in the neighborhood — at Margate Park from 7-10 p.m. Chase Park at 4701 N. Ashland Ave. Clarendon Park at 4501 N. Clarendon Ave. Gill Park at 825 W. Sheridan Road. Margate Park 4921 N. Marine Drive.

Chicago Nightlife Award Nominated Entertainment: Weekend entertainment at Uptown Underground features two performances from the Kiss Kiss Cabaret and friends, a weekly comedy and burlesque show. Various Burlesque performers from the venue are nominated for Chicago Nightlife awards including Nightclub of the Year, Best Weekly Party and Best Drag Entertainer. Mudcrutch at the Riviera: Mudcrutch is best known as the band that introduced Tom Petty to fame back in the 70s. The band reconnected three decades later and earlier this year announced the Riviera as an additional date for its tour. Los Angeles-based rock group The Shelters will open for Mudcrutch. Tickets are $75. Show starts at 8 p.m. 4746 N. Racine Ave.

Learn About Indonesian Dance And Music: Members of Indonesian Dance of Illinois will present a showcase of traditional and modern dances found in different regions of Indonesia at the Bezazian Library on Saturday. After the presentation, the members will host an interactive workshop. 2-4 p.m. 1226 W. Ainslie St. Free.

Mock The Ad Industry with a Musical: "Not As Advertised," created by Jason Geis, follows two recent graduates looking for a job in the advertising world. The musical comedy debuted earlier this month and runs Saturdays until July 16. For more details about the show including a trailer click here.
