57th Street Art Fair Expanding Activities for Kids For June 4-5

HYDE PARK — The 57th Street Art Fair is adding more chances for kids and adults to get involved with the artists for its 69th year.

The annual art fair from June 4-5 on stretches of Kimbark Avenue and 57th Street surrounding Ray Elementary School, 5631 S. Kimbark Ave.

The art fair is adding more activities for kids on the north side of the school with performances by the Court Theatre, Hyde Park School of Dance and Music Teachers of Hyde Park, as well as activities with volunteers from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, the Chicago Public Art Group and the Hyde Park Art Center.

There will be artist talks both days of the fair and a new area where visitors can watch artists working on their pieces at the corner of 56th Street and Kimbark Ave.

Live jazz and blues music will be organized both days by Buddy Guy’s Legends.

Art fair organizers announced jeweler Debra Dembowski, woodworker Marc Lamm and jeweler Aaron Sault have won the “newcomer award.”

The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 4 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 5.
