WEST LOOP — Women's clothing retailer Free People is opening a new shop in Fulton Market, officials announced Wednesday.

The new 10,950-square-foot Fulton Market store, at 1101 W. Randolph St., will be the brand's sixth location in the Chicago area, according to Madison Realty, the real estate arm of Isaac and Billy Shalom of New York, who owns the storefront.

Free People, which specializes in trend and vintage clothing for women, will occupy two floors at the Randolph location. On the main floor, Free People will have a 5,310-square-foot flagship storefront, offering its full women’s fashion line, while on the second floor, it will offer a 3,440-square-foot wholesale showroom. The retailer will also have 2,200 square feet in the building’s basement.

Sharon Kahan, first vice president at CBRE, represented Madison Realty in the transaction, and Staci Joyce, vice president-Central Region of the McDevitt Company represented Free People.

“This is a major transaction for the Fulton Market area,” Kahan said. “We have seen this market grow incredibly in the last few years, but we have yet to see a major national retailer take substantial space. For Free People to bring its flagship store and its wholesale showroom to this area is a huge testament to the strength of Fulton Market.”

Sandwiched in between the neighborhood's destination restaurants and warehouses, more and more retailers are beginning to call the West Loop home. Lifestyle retail shop Rider, custom suit shop BLVDier, luxury retailer Billy Reid, Kit + Ace and M2057 by Maria Pinto all opened in the neighborhood in 2015.

The Shalom family currently owns four properties in the West Loop and has a fifth building under contract.

A representative of Free People could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
