LITTLE VILLAGE — A 23-year-old man was shot to death in Little Village early Sunday morning, police said.

Around 4:55 a.m., the man was sitting in a car traveling in the 2500 block of South Whipple Street when someone shot at him from a passing black SUV, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was driven to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Estrada said. He was later pronounced dead.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Marco Mendez, of the same block.

Police said the man was a documented gang member.

No one is in custody, Estrada said.
