By Kelly Bauer | May 14, 2016 1:17pm | Updated on May 18, 2016 12:20pm

CHICAGO — A shooting in University Village left one man dead and another wounded on Friday night, police said.

At 11:45 p.m., the two men were standing on the sidewalk in the 1200 block of West Grenshaw Street when someone in a dark-colored van fired shots at them, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman. Friends of the victims drove them to Stroger Hospital.

One 21-year-old man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Mark Vargas of the 900 block of West 19th Street, was hit multiple times in his chest and abdomen and was pronounced dead, Estrada said.

Another 21-year-old man was shot in his right arm. His condition was not released but he was listed as "stable," Estrada said.

The men are documented gang members, police said, and the shooting may have been gang-related.

No one was in custody in the shooting.
