PILSEN — Longtime Pilsen coffeehouse Café Jumping Bean will soon open a second location at the Damen Pink Line stop, Transit Authority officials announced Thursday.

In business for more than 20 years, the popular coffee shop will soon offer coffee and more to Pilsen residents on their way to and from work, home and school. CTA officials awarded the 10-year lease to Café Jumping Bean Wednesday.

As part of the partnership with local businesses, CTA officials approved a second lease with Rogers Park-based pop-up pastry shop Smack Dab, which will lease a concession space near the Wellington ‘L’ station at 945 W. Wellington Ave. in Lakeview. The stand will soon offer a wide array of sweet and savory pastries, biscuits and breads at the stop.

Money generated from the retail leases will help boost CTA's revenue and provide customers with additional services that help to boost the neighborhood's economy, officials said in a written statement. Since 2011, CTA has added approximately $16 million in new concession leases.

Since May 2011, the CTA has partnered with more than 30 local businesses, including Flacos Tacos, Gino’s North Pizzeria, the Churro Factory and Bagelers.

The businesses have two five-year options to extend the length of the lease, according to CTA officials.
