COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Kenwood woman who fatally stabbed her boyfriend Monday initially told police he'd been attacked by a robber, prosecutors said.

Sherry Robinson, 50, later confessed to the attack and admitted she lied because she was scared, Assistant State's Attorney Lesley Gool said during a bond hearing Tuesday.

Robinson was drinking beer and watching TV with 51-year-old Kimble Knox, her on-again, off-again boyfriend of 10 years, when the two got into an argument about 12:30 a.m. Monday, prosecutors said. Robinson and Knox had known each other for 20 years and dated for 10.

The fight eventually turned physical, Gool said, and Robinson stabbed Knox in his chest in the kitchen with a knife.

Robinson then dragged Knox's body to the back porch of her apartment in the 4500 block of South Drexel Boulevard before calling 911 and offering "two conflicting reports," according to prosecutors.

First, Robinson told an operator there was "an unwanted person" inside her house, Gool said. On the next call, Robinson allegedly told authorities that Knox was stabbed during a robbery that occurred on her back porch.

Knox wasn't breathing when an ambulance arrived, prosecutors said. He was later pronounced dead ay Holy Cross Hospital.

Police found a knife covered in what appeared to be blood at Robinson's apartment, according to authorities.

Robinson later told police she stabbed Knox with a knife, and said she lied to the 911 dispatcher "because she was scared," Gool said.

According to her public defender, Robinson lives alone in the Drexel apartment and has nine children, who range in age from 16 to 32.

Robinson is charged with first-degree murder. Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil on Tuesday ordered her held in lieu of $2 million bail.
