UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — A student was sexually abused in a University of Illinois at Chicago dorm last week by another student, officials said.

UIC Police received a report on Saturday that a student had been sexually abused in a university residence hall by an acquaintance, also a UIC student, at 600 S. Halsted St. about 3:15 a.m. on Thursday.

According to the report, a female student accompanied a male student to his room, fell asleep and was awakened several times by him touching her and rubbing his genitals against her. She said she was too frightened to flee until later that morning, police said.

The male student is described as a "South Asian male," 5 foot 9, 130 pounds, brown eyes, short black hair and a single ear piercing.

UIC Police are leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 312-996-2830.

The woman's abuse report comes a week after another UIC student reported being sexually assaulted in a nearby campus dorm.

The university is providing resources to assist the woman and will continue to take actions to maintain the safety and security of the campus community, officials said.

Students in need of confidential counseling can contact UIC Counseling Services at 312-996-3490.
