THE LOOP — Broken English Taco Pub, the new taqueria bringing $5 margaritas near Michigan Avenue, will be open in time for fiestas on Cinco de Mayo.

The restaurant coming to 75 E. Lake St. announced its planned May 5 opening date Wednesday. Led by local restaurateurs Phil Stefani and Adolfo Garcia, the restaurant will serve about 20 different tacos, sold in pairs for $5 or $6, and beers and cocktails starting with $3 cans of Modelo and Tecate.

"You can only charge so much for a hot dog, and it’s the same with tacos," Garcia told DNAinfo Chicago last month. "I don’t want people to get a feeling that we’re trying to fancy up something that’s as simple as the items."

The restaurant will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. every day. The menu will include traditional tacos such as al pastor (spit roast with pineapple) and carne asada, plus more specialty items and all-day breakfast tacos (chorizo, huevos con papas). Garcia said the restaurant plans to make its own Mezcal and sell $5 margaritas, as well as $7-$8 cocktails including sangria, "horchata coladas," and "Mezcal Mules."

The bar will also sell tamales, tortas, and snacks such as empanadas, quesadillas, and "street corn."

The restaurant got its name from Garcia, a native Mexican who says his wife and daughters tease his English.

But wait, there's more!

Garcia also announced that he's teaming up with John Comerford, the executive sous chef at the Virgin Hotel, to open Early Society — a grab-and-go counter opening May 2 at 77 W. Wacker Drive. The counter, which is being called a "modern twist on the classic diner," will include a La Colombe coffee bar and fare including sandwiches, salads, burgers and macaroni and cheese.

Early Society will be initially open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with Saturday brunch coming later. A cup of coffee will cost $2.75 and entrees including sandwiches will range from $11 to $19.
