LITTLE VILLAGE — Local activists will honor "forgotten moms" this Mother's Day with a vigil and toiletry drive outside Cook County Jail.

Moms who were formerly incarcerated will share their stories, organizers said, while those still in jail can benefit from a toiletry drive that's focusing on basics including soap, shampoo and toothpaste.

"For these moms, Mother's Day can be painful," organizers wrote on Facebook. "Too often they are forgotten or their motherhood devalued."

The event runs from 11 a.m. to noon May 7 at 2700 S. California Ave. It is co-sponsored by Moms United Against Violence and Incarceration, Support Ho(se) and the Chicago arm of Black Lives Matter.

Requested toiletry donations include travel-sized toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, face wash, deodorant and bar soap.
