UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — Police are warning residents after three armed robberies were reported in less than a week in University Village.

In the incidents, two Hispanic men approached the victim on the street, robbing them at gunpoint, Chicago Police said.

The armed robberies occurred at:

• about 10:40 p.m. April 12 in the 1500 block of South Blue Island Avenue

• about 1 a.m. April 12 in the 1400 block of West Polk Street

• about 1 a.m. April 18 in the 1100 block of West Vernon Park Place

The offenders are described as two 20-30-year-old Hispanic men. One of the men was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and the other was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, according to police.

In the April 18 attack, police at the University of Illinois at Chicago also issued a crime alert. The alert said the victim was on the south side of the street "when he was shoved from behind. He turned and saw two offenders, one of whom was pointing a handgun at him."

They took a phone and a backpack and fled westbound on Vernon Park into a red car — which police said was possibly an older model Nissan sedan. The car, which was double-parked near Racine, drove south on Racine.

In that attack, UIC police said one of the suspects of was armed with a black, semi-automatic handgun, and described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 40 years of age, 5-9 and 150 pounds and wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, Timberland boots, a backwards hat and a trimmed beard.

The second was described as a Hispanic man, 30 to 40 years of age, 5-8 and 280 to 300 pounds, and wearing a tight, white, long-sleeved shirt (possibly UnderArmor brand), blue jeans, Timberland boots and a gold hoop earring in each ear.

Anyone with information about the crimes should contact Area Central Detectives at 312-747-8382.
