NEAR WEST SIDE — Chicago Police have charged two boys after a stolen car chase that ended in a foot chase on the Near West Side Wednesday evening.

At about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers saw a car commit a minor traffic violation in the 1500 block of South Ridgeway Avenue, about a mile west of Douglas Park. At that time, officers investigated and discovered the car was reported stolen, Chicago Police confirmed Thursday.

When cops attempted to curb the stolen car, the driver fled, police said, and car eventually sped east on Roosevelt Road. The car, reportedly a BMW, apparently entered the Eisenhower Expy. at California Avenue and exited the expressway at Damen Avenue, according to SPOTNEWSonIG, a Twitter account that follows Chicago Police scanner traffic.

Then the two suspects bailed out of the car in the 1400 block of West Harrison Street near Andrew Jackson Language Academy, fleeing on foot, police said. Neighbors living in the area reported a heavy police presence on the block during the pursuit.

After a short foot chase, the suspects were arrested at 5 p.m., reportedly at South Ashland Avenue and West Flournoy Street.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and a 15-year-old boy was charged with one count of misdemeanor criminal trespass to a vehicle, police confirmed Thursday.
