UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — Serving traditional Ukrainian fare with "a modern American twist," Tryzub Ukrainian Kitchen hopes to open in May, a spokesman for the eatery said on Tuesday.

Located at the base of a modern 4-story condo building at the southwest corner of Chicago and Leavitt avenues, Tryzub Ukrainian Kitchen is named for the Ukrainian coat of arms, according to Robbie Schloss, a spokesman for the eatery's owner, Myron Lewyckyj.

Schloss said on Tuesday that the restaurant's menu is almost finalized and provided upcoming inspections go well, Tryzub, which will offer traditional favorites like pierogi and crepes, will open in May.

There are 70 seats in the dining room, which can also be rented for private parties, and a more informal area along the bar where patrons can place orders for "fast casual" style carryout meals or snacks, Schloss said.

A peek inside reveals intricate mosaic tile flooring, vintage black-and-white photos adorning the walls and elaborate glass-and-crystal ceiling chandeliers.

A permit for an estimated $507,000 construction job to build the full-service restaurant was issued in 2014, city records show.

Once open, Tryzub will bring 30 new jobs to the area, Schloss said.

Eugene Bereza, founder of a Fulton Market-based real estate development firm that is planning to relocate its office to Wicker Park, next to Schwa restaurant, owns the building, according to county records.

Future patrons can visit the eatery's Facebook page for updates.
