Man Beat Dog To Death On Near West Side, Police Say

CHICAGO — A Near West Side man has been charged with animal cruelty after beating a dog to death, according to police. 

Melvin Stovall, 52, has been identified as the man who brutally beat a dog to death on March 12, police said in a news release.

Stovall, of the 2000 block of West Adams Street, was seen picking up a dog by its legs and then dropping the dog on its head, killing it, police said.

Police arrested Stovall on Tuesday. He is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
