CHICAGO — A 33-year-old man was shot in a car in the Gold Coast early Friday, police said.

At 3:30 a.m., the man was a passenger in a car driving along the 1200 block of North State Street when someone in another car across the street fired shots, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was hit in his leg and was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where he was in good condition, Sedevic said. No one is in custody.

Sam London, a doorman at a residential building across the street from the shooting at State and Scott streets, was preparing to go to sleep when he heard six shots. Though shootings rarely occur in the neighborhood, London said he wasn't surprised given this year's rise in crime. Two other shootings have been reported on Lake Shore Drive this year not far from the Gold Coast scene Friday, including one Wednesday near Lake Point Tower

"It's kinda expected living in Chicago," London said.

Officer Bari Lemmon, another Chicago Police spokeswoman, said the victim had no prior convictions or other history of criminal activity.
