MUSEUM CAMPUS — Shedd Aquarium's adorable new sea otter has a name, and it's Ellie.

The Downtown aquarium, 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, announced the new name Friday morning after asking its members to choose from one of five options. The winner, Ellie, is derived from the Carmel, Calif. beach where the sea otter pup was rescued.

The Shedd adopted the sea otter from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which rescued the pup after January's torrential storms stranded the animal. The Shedd currently has five rescue otters, including Luna, who's known for her aquatic basketball skills. The new otter was previously known as Pup No. 719, a reference to the number of otters the Monterey Aquarium has saved since 1984.
