MUSEUM CAMPUS — The Shedd Aquarium is naming its new baby otter, and it wants some help.

Aquarium members have through March 17 to name the female otter pup, which was rescued off the coast of California in January. The otter, now named Pup 719, will make its public debut with a new name March 18 at the Downtown aquarium, 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive.

The options are:

•Gilly: For Guillemot Island in California.

•Ellie: For Carmel, the California beach where Pup 719 was rescued.

•Cali: For California, where the otter was found.

•Poppy: For the California state flower.

•Reya: Which is derived from Monterey Bay in California.

Monterey Bay Aquarium rescued the orphaned sea otter in January after ferocious storms ripped through the region. The Shedd soon adopted it and shared Monday that the otter is acclimating well to its new environment.
