MUSEUM CAMPUS — The orphaned sea otter Shedd Aquarium rescued earlier this year is adjusting "swimmingly" to her new home, the Downtown museum said.

And there's video to prove it.

"Pup 719," who was saved in January off the coast of Monterey, Calif., is gaining weight and growing more playful with her new friends, the Shedd said Monday. Her favorite toys include stackable plastic cups and "feeder balls," or seafood-filled spheres with little paw-sized holes.

The otter pup, who has yet to be named, was separated from her mother after January's heavy storms officials believe were caused by El Niño. Her placeholder name is a reference to the number of otters the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California has saved since 1984.

The Shedd, 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, currently has five rescue otters, including Luna, in its collection.
