NORTH CENTER — Laugh Out Loud improv theater will mount its first show in its new North Center home on Friday but what happens next will be anyone's guess.

Husband and wife co-owners Lillie Frances and Scott McMillin have been revamping the storefront at 3851 N. Lincoln Ave. since last fall and are now ready to debut their brand of improv in front of Chicago audiences after nine years of performances at Laugh Out Loud's Schaumburg location.

Unlike iO Theater (formerly ImprovOlympic), which specializes in long-form improv, and Second City, which uses improv to generate scripted skits, Laugh Out Loud's ensemble creates rapid-fire comedy based on audience suggestions, Frances said.

Two shows are scheduled every Friday and Saturday: an early family-friendly performance at 7:30 p.m. and a second show at 9:30 p.m. that's just for grownups.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for children and students, and $15 for seniors or groups of 10 or more. Though the theater offers a full bar menu, no minimum drink purchase is required.

Gala grand opening shows are planned for March 25 and 26, including prizes, a "haunted basement" tour and champagne toast. Tickets are $30.

Laugh Out Loud also offers improv classes, free open mic nights and special shows like "Buzzed Broadway," a completely improvised Broadway musical.
