WEST LOOP — Two award-winning chefs have teamed up to open a new 28-seat fine-dining restaurant in a quiet stretch of the West Loop.

Executive Chef Noah Sandoval and Pastry Chef Genie Kwon will open Oriole, a fine-dining experience with an "immersive, extended format" tasting menu, at 661 W. Walnut St. on Thursday. The restaurant is taking reservations now.

Sandoval, who operated Michelin-starred Senza before it closed in January 2015, and Kwon, a Jean Banchet Awards' Rising Pastry Chef of the Year winner, will open the restaurant with general manager Cara Sandoval, Noah's wife. Kwon previously led pastry programs at Boka and GT FIsh & Oyster.

Seafood makes a substantial presence on the 16-course tasting menu, priced at $175 per person. A menu is not provided to guests prior to the meal, making the experience a surprise, a representative said this week.

Oriole will offer two beverage pairings to complement the extended tasting menu, and wines by the glass and bottle, curated by Sommelier Aaron McManus, are featured. A $75 pairing featuring wine, cocktails and juices and a reserve pairing featuring select wines for $125 per person are also offered.

At the restaurant, guests will be welcomed through a vintage freight elevator, and glowing lanterns are featured above each table.

Oriole will be open for dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays. Reservations are required, and can be made on OpenTable or by calling the restaurant at 312-877-5339.
