CHICAGO — A 16-year-old boy was shot while standing at a prominent Pilsen intersection Friday afternoon, according to police.

He was standing near the corner of Cermark Road and Ashland Avenue — near Benito Juarez High School — at 2:53 p.m. Friday when shots were fired from a passing car, said Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman.

The teen was struck in his back and was taken by friends to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Estrada said.

He is a documented gang member, according to police. No arrests have been made as the shooting investigation is ongoing, Estrada said.
