PILSEN — The building that previously housed Ald. Danny Solis' 25th Ward office will become a bank this year.

A Wintrust Bank branch is slated to open at 1800 S. Blue Island Ave. in late February or early spring, confirmed Vince Sanchez, Solis' chief of staff. Renovations on the building are underway and crews were working at the site Tuesday.

The new project takes over three storefronts in the building at the busy intersection of 18th Street and Blue Island Avenue. The bank will take up 2,342 square feet, according to a building permit issued in December.

Giardano's also opened in the corner building at 1401 W. 18th St. in November.

The alderman's office moved to 1645 S. Blue Island in October. Before moving to 1800 S. Blue Island in August 2013, the 25th Ward office was at 2439 S. Oakley Ave.
