CHICAGO — A man was killed and a woman wounded in a shooting in the eastbound lanes of the Skyway bridge on Wednesday, police said.

At 1:28 p.m., the two were driving in a BMW coupe in the 9700 block of South Skyway when a black SUV drove up and someone inside the car shot at the BMW, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, Chicago Police spokeswoman. The shooter hit the man and woman and the black car drove off.

The man in the BMW, who was shot multiple times, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:58 p.m. He was later identified as Elliot Brown, 25, of the 4000 block of South Calumet Avenue.

The woman, who is 23 years old, was shot in her left arm and was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where she was in "stable" condition, Tannehill said.

Police think the victims and shooter had contact prior to the incident, but no further information was immediately available.

The eastbound Skyway was closed as of 2:40 p.m. as police investigated the shooting. The lanes reopened around 5:45 p.m.
