MOUNT GREENWOOD — Elaborations Gift Shop in Mount Greenwood is closing.

The store at 3033 W. 111th St. is selling all of its remaining items at a 50-75 percent discount, according to owner Elaine Mierzwa.

Mierzwa opened the gift shop in 2011. She said a variety of factors led to her decision to close, but the biggest reason was slow sales.

"My customer base has changed. I'm just not getting the business I had," she said Monday afternoon.

Mierzwa hopes to sell out of her remaining merchandise and close the store by the end of the month. The store stocked a wide variety of gift items including personalized glassware, clothing, handmade signs, custom bean bags for backyard games and more.

The store owner said she came out of retirement to open the gift shop and plans to "re-retire" after the closure is complete.

"It was not an easy decision," Mierzwa said.
