CHICAGO — Pau Gasol has spent about a year-and-a-half as a Chicago Bull, but he still hasn't warmed to his adopted city's most cherished food staple.
In an interview with GQ magazine published Monday, the 7-foot power forward said he's "not a fan" of Chicago's take on pizza.
"To me, it's just a cake of melted cheese," Gasol told interviewer Alex Wong. "I like the thin-crust pizzas better."
Gasol joins a long list of high-profile deep dish haters, most notably Jon Stewart, who famously made peace with Chicagoans after saying the dish "tastes like a string cheese that's been baked for two hours inside Mike Ditka's ass."
In August, another New Yorker, celebrity chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain, told DNAinfo that he considers deep-dish "an abomination."
Gasol's fresh-baked position in the Great Pizza Debate may make things awkward between him and teammate Derrick Rose, who owns stock in Giordano's, a major Chicago deep-dish chain.
