UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — A man was punched in his face and then robbed on the UIC campus early Thursday, according to UIC Police.

The strong-arm robbery occurred about 2 a.m. near the corner of Harrison Street and Racine Avenue, police said.

The victim, who is not a UIC student or employee, said he was walking south on Racine toward Harrison when a newer black SUV stopped next to him and two men jumped out, police said.

After approaching the man, one robber implied he had a gun and the other punched the man in the face, police said. The man fell to the ground and the second robber reached into his pocket and took his credit card, police said.

It is not known if the victim received medical attention between the time of the incident and his report of the crime to police 10 hours later.

The first robber is described as a black man, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 and weighing 130-140 pounds. He had black wavy hair and was well dressed, the victim said told police.

The second robber is described as a black man who is 5-foot-5 and was a wearing a pea coat, police said.

Chicago Police are leading the follow-up investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 311.
