CHICAGO — Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will speak in Chicago Wednesday, and is bringing some of his cool friends along.
Sanders plans to speak at a community gathering hosted by Commissioner Chuy Garcia at 3:30 p.m. at El Pollo Feliz, 3132 W. 26th St. The event is invite-only, according to a news release from the campaign.
Afterward, Sanders will speak at a news conference at 4:55 p.m. at the Village Leadership Academy, 1001 W. Roosevelt Road.
Sanders will be joined by activists and artists Killer Mike, Cornel West, Ben Cohen (a founder of Ben and Jerry's), former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner and Jim Hightower, according to Politico.
Sanders has visited Chicago several times throughout his campaign. He's said Hyde Park, where he attended the University of Chicago, made him a Democratic Socialist. He preferred work as an activist in the neighborhoods over studying or classes, he's said.
The senator has used his campaign to continue to try and make change in the city, calling for a federal probe into the Chicago Police Department after the release of the Laquan McDonald shooting video.
