LAKEVIEW — Despondent school kids may still be reeling from the growing likelihood that there won't be snow on the ground come Christmas, but the above-average temperatures and pouring rain Wednesday really drove home the point.

A wet Wednesday morning left at least one Lakeview intersection mired in high water. Several inches of water appeared to hold up cars at the intersection of Broadway Street and Wellington Avenue late Wednesday morning.

Still, meteorologists at the Romeoville outpost of the National Weather Service said the city runs no widespread risk of flooding.

While western suburbs like Aurora can expect higher waters, meteorologist Amy Seeley said that no part of Chicago is expected to see more than an inch of rain in the next 24 hours.

"We're not expecting the Chicago River to go anywhere near flood levels today or tomorrow," Seeley said.

But don't look now, the influx of water into the Chicago River is creating some discoloration near Michigan Avenue. We investigated the last time this happened: It's not poop.
