HYDE PARK — Hyde Park will get very festive in the next two weeks with caroling, ice carving and a visit from the characters of Disney’s “Frozen.”

The events are part of the three-week Hyde Park Holiday Nights series, which kicked off Thursday with caroling and continues on Thursday with five hours of ice carving.

Ice sculpting demonstrations will start at 4 p.m. at Harper Court, 5235 S. Harper Court and continue at 7 p.m. at the Hyde Park Shopping Center at the corner of 55th Street and South Lake Park Avenue.

After asking Hyde Parkers to vote on what to make, sculptors will create a penguin on an iceberg at Harper Court, but have a tie for the Hyde Park Shopping Center sculptor between a gingerbread person on a house, a snowman and a polar bear.

Characters from the movie “Frozen” will make the rounds at Hyde Park shops from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 17, with Elsa, Anna and Olaf all expected to make appearances.

A schedule for each of the characters is available on the event website.

The first two hours of parking at the Harper Court parking garage will be free through the end of the month, including all the events.
