LINCOLN SQUARE — In the race to stock its new store in Lincoln Square by Black Friday, Uncle Dan's forgot one thing — a grand opening party.

A week later, Uncle Dan's is ready to celebrate.

Swing by the shop, 4724 N. Lincoln Ave., Friday through Sunday and enjoy light refreshments, music and the chance to win raffle prizes.

Though Uncle Dan's has been around since 1972, the family-owned business is introducing itself to a new audience in Lincoln Square.

For those unfamiliar with the company, which also operates stores on Southport and in Evanston and Highland Park, Uncle Dan's is like a cozier, indie REI.

Outerwear "to keep you warm and looking great" is the shop's sweet spot, according to Nicole Johnson, director of buying and merchandising.

Camping gear and "widgety items" are other Uncle Dan's specialties, she said.

The shop has also been adding "more lifestyle looks" for women and expects its kids' section to score especially big with Lincoln Square's family, according to Johnson.

Uncle Dan's has extended its hours during the holiday season through Dec. 23. Shop 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
