WICKER PARK — It's not just doughnuts and a new cupcake spot making Wicker Park's main hub sweeter. Come January, Insomnia Cookies — a fast-expanding bakery known for its late-night delivery service — plans to open in the former iCream storefront.
Just south of Wicker Park's Milwaukee, Damen and North avenues intersection, Insomnia Cookies' third Chicago spot will be at 1537 N. Milwaukee Ave., next to Fluevog Shoes and Goorin Bros., a hat shop.
In addition to cookies, Insomnia Cookies also sells brownies, cookie cakes, cold milk and ice cream. The shop serves and delivers ice cream at some of its locations, according to its website.
Earlier this week, a worker at the Lincoln Park shop confirmed the store would be opening in Wicker Park in January. A spokesperson was not immediately available on Friday but Insomnia Cookies' website already lists the new Wicker Park spot with a message of "Coming Soon!"
The bakery will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily, with delivery from noon until 3 a.m.
Founded in a college dorm room, Insomnia Cookies operates 70 bakeries across the country, including Lincoln Park, 2260 N. Lincoln Ave. and Rogers Park, 6470 N. Sheridan Rd.
iCream, which specialized in making ice cream using liquid nitrogen, opened in 2009 and closed several months ago.
