UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — A UIC student was robbed Tuesday evening on campus, but she was able to recover her cellphone after a good Samaritan stepped in to help.

About 5:30 p.m., the student was walking southbound in the 1200 block of South Halsted Street when she was approached by an unknown man who shoved her before grabbing her phone and running south on Halsted Street, UIC police said.

As the robber ran away, a witness followed him, recovered the phone and returned it to the student. The student was not hurt during the incident, police said.

The robber is described as a 15- to 17-year-old black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

The Chicago Police Department is leading the investigation. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call 311.
