NEAR WEST SIDE — A thief disguised as a hockey player is believed to have stolen cash from real hockey players at Johnny's IceHouse East and Johnny's IceHouse West Monday night.
After a men's league hockey game Monday night at Johnny's IceHouse West, hockey players noticed that cash was missing from their wallets in the ice rink's locker room, located at 2550 W. Madison St. on the Near West Side.
Victims said their wallets were located in a locker room that was unlocked but visible from the ice rink.
Some of the victims suspect the thief was someone dressed in hockey gear who was seen in the locker rooms before the real players took the ice.
Someone in hockey gear also stole money Monday from players at Johnny's IceHouse East, at 1350 W. Madison St. on the Near West Side, according to a law enforcement source.
In total, more than $500 in cash was taken from players along with other personal belongings, the source said.
Pete Johnson, general manager of Johnny's IceHouse, did not immediately return a call for comment Tuesday afternoon.
