PILSEN — Friday's Dia de los Muertos ball in Pilsen will celebrate the spirits of the living and dead with some special guests.

The National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen will once again host the Dia de los Muertos "Love Never Dies" ball from 7-11 p.m. Friday. The event is sponsored by the museum and Siempre Mujer magazine.

More than 500 guests are expected to be in attendance Friday night, according to a magazine spokeswoman. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and former mayoral candidate Jesus "Chuy" Garcia have been invited.

Tickets, on sale for $125, are available online, and include live musical performances from the Sones de Mexico ensemble and others, dancing, the museum's traditional alter exhibitions, festive food, specialty cocktails, a silent auction and more. Tickets will be $150 at the door.

All proceeds from the ball benefit the museum's art education programs.

Day of the Dead, the annual Hispanic tradition that honors the deceased, begins the day after Halloween and ended Monday. The days coincide with the Catholic holidays All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, but the holiday was born from ancient Aztec traditions.
