PILSEN — With a nighttime skeleton processional and sidewalk altar displays, Pilsen residents once again celebrated Dia de los Muertos in style this year.

Celebrations started with the Carrera de los Muertos — Race of the Dead — Saturday morning and continued with events Sunday at Harrison Park. As night fell over the neighborhood Monday, ElevArte's 36th annual Muertos de la Risa processional brought puppet skeletons, the Nahui-Ollin Aztec dancers and colorful displays to Pilsen's streets for the holiday's close.

Day of the Dead, the annual Hispanic tradition that honors the deceased, begins the day after Halloween and ended Monday. The days coincide with the Catholic holidays All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, but the holiday was born from ancient Aztec traditions.
