HYDE PARK — The Hyde Park Historical Society is accepting nominations for the best preservation of neighborhood architectural history.

The Hyde Park Historical Society is accepting nominations from the public for the 2016 Marion and Leon Despres Preservation Award.

The group is looking for individuals, institutions or organizations who have gone out of their way to preserve historical architecture in Hyde Park — and that’s not Hyde Park the neighborhood.

The award is open to any project in Hyde Park Township, the old borders before Hyde Park became part of the city. So any project from 35th Street to 139th Street and State Street to the lake is eligible.

Good deeds for architecture will be honored though.

The group is also looking for nominations for the Paul Cornell Award, named after the neighborhood’s founder.

According to the historical society, the award recognizes individuals and organizations whose work exemplify the values and objectives of the society: recording Hyde Park’s history, preserving Hyde Park artifacts and documents, education and promoting public interest in Hyde Park history.

The award will be presented at the historical society’s annual dinner on Feb. 27.

Nominations can be submitted through the historical society’s website at hydeparkhistory.org.
