HYDE PARK — Cable access mainstay “Chic-A-Go-Go” will tape its annual Halloween dance party episode in Hyde Park this year.

Miss Mia and Ratso the puppet will film the dance show for kids that’s been on the air in Chicago since 1996 at 1 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Promontory, 5311 S. Lake Park Ave.

Hyde Park has long had a part in the show, with Hyde Park Records supplying much of the music for the show, but now the neighborhood gets to take part in the dancing.

Neighborhood kids are invited to come and dance, and since it’s the Halloween episode, dress up in their best costumes.

As always, local bands will join, with outsider rhythm and blues singer T. Valentine, who will make his first appearance on the show in over 14 years. The Cavedwellers and Fast Decay will join him for their first appearance on “Chic-A-Go-Go.”

The filming is the centerpiece of a free Halloween block party that starts at 11 a.m. in the Promontory parking lot.

There will be pumpkin decorating, food and drinks and Corepower will offer yoga for kids. Local shops like Akira and Silver Room will also have booths.

Later in the evening, Biz Markie will host a “Haunted House of Rock” party at the club playing old school hip-hop.

Tickets for the evening party, which starts at 10 p.m., are $20 and $50 for reserved seats, bottle service and an opportunity to meet Biz Markie.

Tickets are available on the Promontory website.
