OLD TOWN — An elevated sports bar, or "sports parlor," and restaurant has joined the neighborhood.

The Vig, 1527 N. Wells St., is throwing a grand opening party Friday at 7 p.m. To RSVP, email info@thevigchicago.com.

Owner Ryan S. Marks was a partner at The Big Onion Tavern Group, which was responsible for opening bars like Derby Bar & Grill, Fatpour Tap Works and 404 Wine Bar, before opening his own place.

Both sports and nonsports fans alike are welcome. The bar/restaurant is outfitted with 12 flat-screen TVs for game viewing. However, on nongame days, those TVs will be either covered with artwork or tucked away, according to a news release.

Food-wise, patrons can expect a rotating menu of "smears," or dips served with warm bread, as well as other dinner items like slow-cooked brisket, bao buns, skirt steak and fries and king crab legs. Chef Robert Kabakoff, owner of The White Chocolate Grill in suburban Naperville, will serve as the collaborating chef.

Brunch will be served on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be 20 draft beers, two rotating wines on tap and two cocktails on tap. In total, there will be about 10 craft cocktail on the menu.

Christopher Kafcas, the collaborating beverage director, is aiming to roll out an alcoholic slushie machine in the summer, which could be enjoyed from the 30-person sidewalk cafe.

The Vig will be open Monday-Thursday 5 p.m.-2 a.m., Fridays 3 p.m.-2 a.m., Saturdays 10-3 a.m. and Sundays 10 a.m.-2 a.m.
