WEST LOOP — A West Loop developer will pitch plans to build 70 condominiums across from Harpo Studios at a community meeting next week.

Belgravia Group will present plans to develop the 70 condo units at Washington Boulevard and Aberdeen Street at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Merit School of Music, 38 S. Peoria St. in the West Loop. Ald. Danny Solis (25th) and the West Loop Community Organization will host the meeting.

The developer plans to build a six-story, 77-foot-tall building on a large lot at Washington Boulevard and Aberdeen Street. If approved, the new development will displace A&A Automobile Service, a longtime auto repair shop at the site.

All 70 of the condos would be three-bedroom, three-bathroom units perfect for expanding families hoping to stay in the West Loop, said Alan Lev, Belgravia CEO. The condos will be between 2,100 and 2,200 square feet and list in the high $700,000s or low $800,000s.

The property is currently zoned DX-3 and the developer requests a zoning change to DX-5, a variance with special use according to Carla Agostinelli, executive director of the West Loop Community Organization. The zoning change will allow the developer to build family-size units, the variance will allow for 45-feet of open terrace and the special use will allow parking at ground level.

Belgravia hopes to break ground on the project in May 2017 and deliver the first units in summer 2018.
