CHICAGO — Two people were killed and 53 were wounded, including a 10-year-old girl, in shootings over the weekend, police said.

On Sunday afternoon, a 25-year-old man was shot in his back when he was in North Lawndale in a car where the occupants were exchanging gunfire with people in another car, said Officer Janel Sedevic, Chicago Police spokeswoman. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man is a documented gang member, police said.

In non-fatal shootings:

• Most recently, two men were shot after they got into an argument with another man at 2:50 a.m. Monday in the 5700 block of West Grand Avenue in Belmont Cragin, Sedevic said. A 30-year-old man was shot multiple times in his back and was in serious condition at Loyola Medical Center, and a 28-year-old man was shot in his stomach and was in "stable" condition at Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said.

The man who shot the victims ran away and was chased by police, Sedevic said. Officers fired at the man but did not report hitting anything. They arrested him, recovered a weapon and charges are pending, Sedevic said.

• At midnight, a 23-year-old man walked into Rush Hospital with a wound in his thigh, Sedevic said. He was transferred to Stroger Hospital in "stable" condition, Sedevic said. The man said he was standing outside in the 4000 block of West 55th Street in West Elsdon when he heard shots and felt pain.

• At 11:20 p.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old man was standing at the corner in the 5000 block of West Division Street in South Austin when someone in a passing car fired at him, Sedevic said. The man was shot in his hip and is in "stable" condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Sedevic said.

The man is a documented gang member, police say.

• At 10:40 p.m., four people were shot in a drive-by in the 5200 block of South Justine Street in Back of the Yards, Sedevic said. They were standing on the sidewalk when a car pulled up and someone shot at them.

A 30-year-old man was shot in his groin, a 45-year-old man was shot in his leg and hip and a 33-year-old man was shot in his thigh and hip area, and all were in serious condition at Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said. A 29-year-old woman's shoulder was grazed and she was in good condition at Mercy Hospital.

• At 10:20 p.m., a 50-year-old man was shot after he tried to intervene in an argument between two people in the 1300 block of North Luis Munoz Marine Drive in Humboldt Park, Sedevic said. The shooter ran away, but he was later taken into custody and charges are pending, Sedevic said.

• At 9:40 p.m., two men were standing outside in the 3000 block of West Lexington Street in South Austin when a car pulled up and people shot at them, Sedevic said. An 18-year-old man was shot in his chest and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition, Sedevic said, and a 23-year-old man's wrist was grazed and he refused treatment.

Officers saw the car fleeing after the shooting and chased them, Sedevic said. The car crashed in the 1400 block of South California Avenue and three men were taken into custody.

The victims are documented gang members, police said.

• At 6:30 p.m., a 24-year-old man was standing outside in the 11700 block of South Harvard Avenue in West Pullman when he was shot by someone in a black Nissan, Sedevic said. The man was shot in his right leg and was in good condition at Roseland Community Hospital. The shooter drove off.

The victim is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 5:50 p.m., a 24-year-old man was in a car in the 7900 block of East End Avenue in South Shore when he was shot, Sedevic said. The man was shot in his buttocks and his head was grazed. He took himself to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was in "stable" condition, Sedevic said.

• At 2:30 p.m., a 33-year-old man was grazed by gunfire when he was standing on the sidewalk in the 5200 block of South Lowe Avenue in Back of the Yards, Sedevic said. The victim was standing with other men when shots rang out and his left hand was grazed. He refused medical attention.

• At 2:14 p.m., a 27-year-old man got into an argument with another person and was shot in the 7000 block of North Harding Avenue in East Garfield Park, Sedevic said. The man was shot multiple times in his face, arm, shoulder and leg, and was in "stable" condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Sedevic said. He was taken to the hospital by a relative.

Two people are in custody and charges are pending, Sedevic said.

The victim is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 1:40 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in his leg in the 3300 block of West 38th Place in Brighton Park, Sedevic said. He was taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition. No further information was immediately available.

• At 12:50 p.m., three people, including a young girl, where shot in the 1400 block of East 66th Place in Woodlawn, Sedevic said.  The shooter walked out of a vacant lot and shot at a man, injuring a woman and child in the process, Sedevic said.

A 19-year-old man was shot in his back and taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition, Sedevic said. An 18-year-old woman was shot in her right calf and taken to Northwestern in "stable" condition, Sedevic said. A 10-year-old girl's neck was grazed and she was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.

Police think the woman and child were unintended victims, Sedevic said.

Unless otherwise noted, no one is in custody for these shootings.

One person was killed and 14 wounded in shootings on Saturday, and 20 people were wounded in Friday shootings.
