FULTON MARKET — A two-story building near the 1K Fulton development partially collapsed late Wednesday night, according to fire officials.

The building at 312 N. Carpenter St., which was being rehabbed, collapsed at about 11:05 p.m. Wednesday. The bow truss roof caved in.

No one was injured in the collapse. Chicago Fire Department officials said the remaining structure was dangerous and might fall.

The city's Department of Buildings was called to the scene early Thursday as police guarded the building's remains, according to Larry Langford, Fire Department spokesman.

The building was one of four Fulton Market buildings recently bought by New York-based Madison Capital, according to Crain's Chicago. The firm bought the properties from a meatpacker and planned to redevelop the building.

The collapsed building, at Fulton and Carpenter streets, neighbors Sterling Bay's 1000 W. Fulton Market development. The 1K Fulton development is also known as the Google building, a nod to one of the building's main tenants.
