BEVERLY — A 22-year-old man has been arrested after a series of vehicle break-ins in the Beverly area, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Anthony Cross, 22, of the 1400 block of 110th Place in Morgan Park was charged with burglary and theft, a police spokesman said.

In an email to constituents Tuesday afternoon, Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) said police responded to a 911 call from a resident who saw Cross inside a neighbor's car.

Cross tried to run away but was caught after a short chase in the 10600 block of South Leavitt Street in Beverly, O'Shea said.

Cross has nine previous arrests and two prior misdemeanor convictions. He has been arrested in the 19th Ward five times in the past year, according to O'Shea's email.

"This incident shows the importance of reporting any and all suspicious behavior to 911. If you see something that you believe isn't right, please do not hesitate to call 911 immediately," O'Shea wrote.

The arrest comes after police in the Morgan Park Police District issued an alert on Aug. 30 warning about someone breaking into unlocked vehicles in the 9200-11000 blocks between Oakley Avenue and Longwood Drive.

Eight such vehicles had been burglarized in August, the alert stated. O'Shea's email drew a parallel to these break-ins and Cross' arrest.

"The Chicago Police Department informed me that some of the vehicles involved in this incident were unlocked; please always make sure your car doors are locked. Working together, we can keep our community a much safer place," O'Shea's email read.
