NEAR WEST SIDE — A man is dead and another is hurt following a shooting in the Near West Side early Sunday morning, police said.

Around 2:30 a.m. the men were standing on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of West Randolph Street when a black van pulled up and someone inside fired shots, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Both men were taken to Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said.

Lavell Southern, 23, of the 8800 block of South Bennett Avenue, was pronounced dead at 3:02 a.m. He died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The other man, 24, was listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound in his upper left arm, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody, Sedevic said.
