O+ Festival Brings Free Health Check-Ups For Artists to Pilsen This Weekend

PILSEN — With art and music, O+ Festival aims to bridge the health care gap for artists in Pilsen this weekend.

The first-ever Chicago O+ Fest kicked off Thursday and will continue Friday and Saturday at a variety of Pilsen venues. In exchange for their participation in the fest, artists and performers receive free health care check ups from doctors, dentists and other providers at the O+ Clinic.

The weekend-long festival features concerts, street performances, art making and wellness offerings for the entire community.

Performing musicians include: Mama Crow, Monogold, Edamame, SMOKER, Inari Gold, Gina Venier, Matt Tatum, Apres Pompeii, Bernie And The Wolf, Jodi Jean and Aylon, Smear Campaign,  Jugo de Mango and Animal Farm.

Artists exhibiting work at the fest include: Adrienne Ciskey, Amy Hahn, Alison Meaney, Chris Sipos, Eileen Tull, Emily Koon, Escolta St. Snatchers Social Club and Mudgeonsoul Productions. 

A full schedule is available online.

Festival organizers suggest a $10 donation to support the non-profit's mission.

Named for the O-positive blood type, the non-profit O+ Festival began in Kingston, NY in 2010. The fest has since expanded to Petaluma, Calif. and Chicago.

The Chicago fest is sponsored by the National Museum of Mexican Art and Lagunitas Brewing Company.
