UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — Argo Tea is opening its latest cafe on the UIC campus Thursday.

The contemporary tea cafe on the second floor of Student Center East, 750 S. Halsted St., will host a grand opening celebration from noon-5 p.m. Thursday. The grand opening will include signature drinks, live music and giveaways.

The cafe will serve freshly brewed hot and cold teas, fresh pastries, sandwiches and salads. Menu items will include raw, vegan and gluten-free foods that are prepared in-store daily, according to a press release.

Argo's tea selections include specialty tea creations that blend loose-leaf teas with fresh juices or milk, seasonal teas and popular tea varieties. The shop also sells loose-leaf tea by the ounce and ready-to-drink bottles.

Eric Simon, executive director of UIC's student centers, said the university aims to give students a variety of healthy dining choices.

"We believe Argo Tea's offerings will be a welcome addition," he said.

The new cafe is currently hiring and will provide 15 new jobs for students, alumni and nearby residents.

Argo Tea has more than 50 locations worldwide, and currently has cafes on 11 college campuses.
