UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — Police are investigating an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery that occurred in the University Commons complex less than a week apart.

A man and woman were robbed at gunpoint near a University Commons building last week, cops confirmed Wednesday.

About 11:25 p.m. Aug. 26, a 26-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were approached by a man with a gun as they were outside a building in the 1000 block of West 15th Street, according to Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The robber pointed the weapon at the victims and robbed them of their belongings, police said. He then ran off, police said.

Authorities don't know if the man was a guest or resident or someone trespassing on the property, according to an e-mail sent to University Commons residents from building management.

The robber was described as a black man age 18-25, between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot tall and between 150-165 pounds. He was wearing a baseball cap and dark clothes, according to the building's management.

Attempted armed robbery

In a second incident, a woman reported an attempted armed robbery near a University Commons building this week.

At 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, a woman was being dropped off at a University Commons building in the 1000 block of West 15th Street by an Uber driver. While the driver was parked on a loading dock near the building, a man walked up to him and started patting his pockets and asking how to get to location on Roosevelt Road, according to an e-mail from building management.

At some point, the woman told the driver to roll up his window, and the man pulled a gun out of his pocket, cocked the gun and pointed it at the driver. The driver was able to put the car in reverse and speed off.

No one was hurt and a police report was filed, according to an e-mail to residents from University Commons management.

The woman, a passenger in the Uber car, reported the robber was really nervous and had shaky hands.

He is described as a black man age 18-25, between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot tall and between 150-165 pounds. He was wearing a white baseball cap, a white shirt and white pants with dollar signs printed on the pants.

DK Condo contacted the beat's CAPS representative and asked that Chicago Police and UIC Police increase patrols in the area, according to an e-mail.

Both crimes are still under investigation.
