CHICAGO RIVERWALK — The Hideout opened its popup Riverwalk venue Thursday, complete with happy hour specials and a new Lagunitas beer.

The riverfront bar between State Street and Wabash Avenue includes a replica of the original Hideout, a house-turned-bar at 1354 W. Wabansia Ave. known for its live music and annual block party. The new venue at 35 E. Riverwalk South will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily through Nov. 1, when the city will ask all Riverwalk vendors to reapply for a lease.

"We said, '[the Riverwalk] looks really cool, what the hell, let's do it,'" Hideout President and Co-owner Tim Tuten said. "Life is short, you only live once, and we want to do the best 10 weeks ever."

David Matthews explains what a 3x3x3 special is:

The Hideout Riverwalk will pour $7 drafts from Lagunitas, including the brewery's IPA, Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale and a new, mango beer made for this year's World's Fair in Milan. The bar will also serve $10 cocktails and $5 Astra Grapefruit Radler, $7 Gunga Din Cider, $6 Miller Lite and $4 Pabst Blue Ribbon cans.

From 3-6 p.m., the bar will run a "3x3x3" happy hour, when shots (Malort, whiskey), and PBR cans are $3. Customers can also buy a $6 Radler-and-Malort combo then.

The food menu includes fruit and vegetables from Crisp! and $8 pasties ("like a handheld pot pie," Tuten said) from Bridgeport Pasty

The bar seats just under 100 inside, and its patio fits 150, Tuten said. There will be no cover charge for the bands, who will either play on the patio or inside, depending on the weather. The shows are mostly feature Hideout regulars, Tuten said, starting with The Wandering Boys at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
