COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Little Village man tried to rob someone at gunpoint inside a McDonald's bathroom over the weekend, prosecutors said Monday.

The botched robbery was foiled when a little boy entered the public restroom about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said during a bond hearing Monday.

Angel Morales, 20, is accused of entering the men's restroom inside a Little Village McDonald's at 2609 S. Kedzie Ave. with a juvenile accomplice on Sunday morning, prosecutors said.

Morales and the juvenile cornered a 28-year-old Garfield Ridge man and demand he give them money, Antonietti said. The man refused, and the accomplice pulled a knife while Morales guarded the door, she added.

The pair asked the man for money several times, but he refused each time, according to prosecutors.

At that point, a child entered the restroom and the victim used the distraction to get away, Antonietti said.

Morales was arrested a few blocks away just before noon Sunday in the 2700 block of South Whipple Street, according to an arrest report.

Morales, of the 2200 block of South Homan Avenue, was charged with attempted armed robbery.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas set his bail at $100,000.
