BOYSTOWN — Colorful patterns and lettering now affixed to the facade at 3600 N. Halsted St. signal the coming of a new gym this fall.

CrossTown Fitness, currently located in the West Loop, will open a second location at Addison and Halsted in October. The fitness center joins Center on Halsted's senior program on the ground floor of the city's first LGBTQ senior housing complex.

The North Side gym will have a larger workout floor and three times as much window space as the one at 1031 W. Madison St., but like in the West Loop it will have a kids' room, showers, cafe and personal training area.

CrossTown is offering presale memberships specials ahead of the opening. As soon as you register, you get 10 class passes and 10 guest passes for the West Loop gym, a free personal training session, tank or T-shirt and $99 monthly fee for the first two months, with rates increasing to $150 afterward.

The membership provides access to both clubs, but customers won't be billed until the Boystown location opens. The special is only valid for new or inactive CrossTown members.

Town Hall Apartments opened in October, replacing the historic Town Hall police station, which developers Heartland Housing Inc. described as a symbol of gay discrimination in the 1970s and '80s.

The six-story complex offered 79 affordable studio and one-bedroom apartments designed solely for LGBTQ residents 55 or older.

Soon after the building was completed, Center on Halsted's senior services moved in. The program offers workshops, meal programs, advocacy and benefits counseling.
